What to Bring


For Dental and Medical Professionals

Suggested Personal Packing List
  

WHAT WE PROVIDE and WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

Dentists, doctors, and endodontists are allowed up to two checked bags to bring their medical and dental supplies. Surgeons who need more than the two-checked-bag limit will be able to have other volunteers use their allowance to bring the extra bags of supplies.


Dentists/Endodontists:

We will provide:

  • a dental chair
  • a table
  • a delivery system which includes suction, air, and water
  • Nomad handheld portable x-ray machines to be shared by the group.
  • digital x-rays through a wireless network to your station
  • sterilization for instruments
  • an electrical outlet

You will need to bring:

  • instruments
  • handpieces
  • headlights
  • laptop with a wireless network card for x-rays
  • all necessary anesthesia, medications (including pain medication if you plan on dispensing to patients), equipment, materials, and supplies to treat approximately 40-50 patients for dentists and 50-60 patients for endodontists.



Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons

We will provide:

  • a dental chair
  • a table
  • digital x-rays through a wireless network to your station
  • sterilization for instruments
  • an electrical outlet

You will need to bring:

  • suction setup
  • handpieces
  • instruments
  • headlights
  • laptop with a wireless network card for x-rays
  • all necessary anesthesia, medications (including pain medication for dispensing to patients), materials, equipment, and supplies to treat approximately 100 patients.


Physicians

We will provide:

  • a private room for examinations
  • a table and chairs
  • blood pressure cuffs
  • eye chart
  • scale
  • blood and urine laboratory tests

You will need to bring:

  • other equipment and supplies necessary to conduct physical exams for approximately 150 patients.


Nurses

You will need to bring:

  • blood pressure cuff
  • digital thermometer
  • any other supplies or equipment you will need to complete your assignment

 

Dental Assistants and Oral Surgery Assistants
Pre-dental and Pre-medical Students

You will need to bring:

  • exam gloves (Dentists will treat 40-50 patients, endodontists will treat 50-60 patients, hygienists will treat 100 patients, oral surgeons will treat 100 patients. Bring plenty of gloves to assist where needed.)
  • sterile gloves (For oral surgery assistants only--surgeons will treat approximately 100 patients,)
  • gowns (For oral surgery assistants only)
  • face masks
  • protective eyewear



For All Other Volunteers


Suggested Personal Packing List
 

All other volunteers will be contacted a few weeks before departure to be given their clinic assignments. At that time you will be informed of specific things you will need to bring to complete your assignment. General guidelines are:

  • scrubs or other appropriate medical clinic attire to last for the 6-day clinic. (Everyone wears these in the clinics.)
  • eye protection (glasses or goggles) for those working in the dental clinic.
  • a box of 100 exam gloves (or what you anticipate using) for your own use in the clinic.
  • protective masks for your own use in the clinic.
