Obtaining a License and Permissions to Practice in Central America

For Dental and Medical Professionals

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU AT REGISTRATION:

1.  Documents to Obtain a Temporary License to Practice in the Country

We will help dental and medical professionals apply for a temporary license to practice in each country in Central America. All professionals will need to do this, as you cannot practice without it. This will be done as a group.

Therefore, if you are planning to travel with us, upon registration, you must send ASAP via email, digital copies of your:

  • diploma
  • current professional license
  • curriculum vitae (a brief resume)
  • passport

Please send your documents to smilesforcentralamerica @ gmail . com (no spaces). We will apply for the license for you, but it is critical that we apply as a group. Your documents are due at the time of registration.

If you submitted these forms for trips in 2010 or 2011, we still have your documents on file and you do not need to resubmit them.

However, if your professional license or passport has expired since then, please send us an updated digital copy. When you have completed your registration form, you will receive an email detailing what documents you need to update. Your registration will not be complete until all documents are received.

All dental and medical professionals should also have photocopies of these documents with them while on the expedition.

2.  Information to Obtain Permission to Bring Supplies into the Country

We must also obtain permission from the government for you to bring your equipment, supplies, and medicines into the country and through the airport duty-free.

To do this, we must submit a detailed packing list of the medications, supplies, instruments, and equipment you will be bringing into the country. This must be submitted to the government several weeks before we arrive.

After you have submitted your registration, we will send you a generalized packing list form. All you need to do is fill in the quantities, lot numbers, and expiration dates, if applicable. Please return the completed form as soon as possible.

Please pay special attention to expiration dates of medications. Those dates must have at least 6 months remaining before the expiration date when you enter the country. We encourage you to order your medications now and set them aside for the trip.
